Keswick to Threlkeld Railway Trail, Cumbria, UK
Visited July 20, 2023
I used Google maps to find the Keswick trail head but it did not bring me to the trail head. If I was using Google maps again and wanted to find the trail head, I would go to Keswick Leisure Pool. The trail picks up behind it.
17 degrees Celsius by 10 AM (62.6 degrees Fahrenheit), mix of sun and clouds; 7:00 AM-9:52 AM
Porta potties (porta loos) available at the Keswick Trail Start
Keswick is very dog friendly.
I walked approximately seven miles total on the trail there and back. (It was about 4 miles to Threlkeld at Highway A66.)
The trail was very nice and the sunshine was welcome. It was paved and, as would be expected with an old railway line, there were no serious inclines. There were many other people out enjoying the sunshine running, bicycling, walking dogs, hiking (much faster than me). I was happy to see that such a nice trail was being well used because it looks like quite an investment was made for this trail. After a week of challenging terrain, I really enjoyed the smoothly paved surface of this trail.
Parking: There was a car park behind Keswick Leisure Pool with a row of porta potties. It was across from the old Keswick Railway Station.
I saw very little trash.
The temperature was low enough that I did not have trouble with mosquitos or midges.
This trail is good for bicycles, strollers, and wheelchairs.
I saw sheep, a heron, a slug, a variety of wildflowers, berry briars, ferns, mosses, lichens, ivy, and trees.

Just a few minutes' walk from the boat launch and the cottage where I was staying for the week. They offer rooms and based on the dining service, I would be interested in checking out their rooms if I ever visit Keswick again.
I ate dinner here more than once during the week. The food and beverages were excellent. The service was friendly and spot on. The place is very dog friendly. I did not have a dog with me, but I witnessed many dogs visiting during the week. I stopped in early in the day to make dinner reservations or made them a day ahead. This is strongly recommended during the high tourist season.

Very nice food and service.
This is where Google maps brought me.
?
Very nice informational boards along the entire pathway
It is amazing how cool the temperature is in these cuts through the rock.
Can't really tell from my photo but this is me looking back at the end of the trail; it zig zags back and forth.
This is me looking up at the zig zag path trying to get it to show up in a picture.
And now back the way I came.
This is where I was able to see where the trail actually started in Keswick.
I turned around for another look at the station
Porta potties and public car park across from the station
Keswick Leisure Center with a rabbit in front.
Passed through Fitz park again on my way back to my accommodations.
