Bear Lake is a kettle lake that was created when the glaciers melted.  There is no hiking trail here so why have I added this location to my site? Bear Lake has a nice access "ramp" for kayakers when the weather is warmer.  (It is not in place at this time of year.)  I enjoy the level walking with no hills for at least a mile;  I can turn around whenever I know I need to return to my car.  When I moved to the area over 20 years ago, there was a little Clever Store that sold a bit of everything that a small lake community would want.  I was sad when it closed.  Some days, I walk along the lake watching geese, mallards, and a heron or bald eagle and I see no one except maybe a local Labrador.  Other days, 20 cars will pass me and I will see over 20 people in their yards or out walking.  The higher numbers tend to be around the holiday weekends: Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and Labor Day.  Most of the people are friendly and will give a smile or wave.  Last time I visited when there was ice on the lake, there was a fishing hut on the lake.  I would love to be able to visit this area in the 1950s to see it flourishing, when the giant oak trees were young.

No cost for parking.  I am not aware of access costs for kayaking.

Limited parking.   Only four spaces.
