Rails to Trails:

Pop Warner, Springville

Visited July 6, 2022

I used Google Maps "Pop Warner Rail Trail (ECRT) Springville" to get to the West Main Street Trail Head at 248 West Main Street. There is parking at the Historic Rail Road Depot. Google maps offers "Depot Street, Springville" and that will get you to the trail head area, as well.

68-72 degrees 9:05 AM - 10:30 AM sunny, with little to no breeze

No public toilets or porta potties.

There is no admission fee.

Dogs on leash permitted. There is a dog waste station on the trail.

The trail is well marked.

Mom met Wesley and me at the Train Depot. We walked "north" approximately 1 mile until we saw the "END TRAIL" sign (approximately 25 minute). We walked another .3 miles further (total of 1.3 from parking) before turning back. 9:05 AM - 10:10 AM

Wesley and I also walked .34 miles the other direction for 20 minutes after crossing Route 39 and passing the information board.

We shared the trails with deer, squirrels, chipmunks, birds, a few other walkers, dog walkers, and a friendly man on a 3-wheeled bike who offered a treat to Wesley.

The trails were mostly shady with some areas of full sun. We enjoyed a few of the first ripening black raspberries but there will be more for visitors this week.

The Rails to Trails are wide enough for a few people to walk side by side. The trails do not have signs at road intersections with the names of the roads being crossed. I have seen that near Mayville, New York and liked the additional way of keeping track of where I was on the trail.

Benches were located by Route 39 and Waverly Street crossings. Picnic tables are by Route 39.

The trail has sections of natural surface, large railroad gravel surface, and pavement millings. It was mowed in the grassy sections so shorts would be fine on the sections I walked today. There was no mud on the trail but we also have had no real rain in over two weeks. The trails were flat, one of the defining features of a Rails to Trail.

I saw no litter.

The mosquitos were not bad today but did start to strike toward the end of our walk.

Parking: Paved with 10+ spots available.

I did not see poison ivy.

We saw robins and a red-winged blackbird. We saw deer, rabbits, chipmunks and gray squirrels. There were daisies, mullein, mayapple, buttercups, forget me nots, sweet pea, milkweed, pink clover, cattails, phlox, birds foot, vetch, lilies, chicory, multiflora rose, black raspberries, Virginia creeper, Queen Anne's lace, and a variety of tree species including staghorn sumac and maples.
