Emery Park

Visited August 16, 2021

Emery Road, South Wales, NY [The Google Maps "Emery Park" brought me to a first parking lot. I drove further down Emery Road to get to the parking area near Creek Trail.]

72-74 degrees Fahrenheit 12:00 PM - 12:40 PM

I did not go in the bathroom facility as Wesley was with me, but I saw people leaving it so it was open.

Dogs on leash are welcome. Come prepared to pick up after your dog. The signage is very specific about that.

I would allow 2 hours or more to explore more of the trails in this park. Wesley and I hiked clockwise for 1 mile on a pleasant undemanding loop that included the Creek Trail.

The trail was mowed and maintained so shorts would be okay if you are staying on the trail. I would recommend sturdy shoes as there is trash and broken glass near the creek.

Some of the trail was single file but many areas could accommodate two people walking side by side. I saw people as I was arriving and when I left but I had the trail to myself.

There was litter on this trail: broken glass and bits of balloons. Trash bins are easily accessible near the parking lots and picnic shelters.

There is no foliage encroaching on the trail long pants were not a necessity.

Mosquitos were present but respected the long pants, hat, and bug spray.

No cost for parking.

Parking: a paved lot that will host 20+ vehicles

There is more than one lot to choose from. I parked in a paved lot near the #12 picnic shelter.

While in the park, Wesley and I saw robins and a chipmunk. I saw lilac, cherry, birch, maple, and oak trees. I saw Queen Anne's lace, milkweed, mayapple, asters, mint, and goldenrod.

Emery Park is part of the WNY Summer Hiking Challenge. https://outsidechronicles.com/challenge

This park is also in the 2021 Erie County Parks Passport. Pictures are below.

This is the lot that the Google maps brought me to. It seems popular as a starting point for the disc golfers.

Playground near where I parked near Shelter #12. I walked down the paved trail to the left and followed the right edge of the mowed area until I saw the sign for Creek Trail.

Shelter #12 near where I parked.

Neat tree with a natural "fairy door."

Old Furnace

Creek is low this summer. Watch out for broken glass.

Aster

The Creek Trail curls around along the creek but close enough to provide views of the playground and toilet facilities.
